Description
At the end of this activity, students should be able to: – be able to explain the unique properties of the element carbon – understand the terms ‘homologous series’ and ‘isomers’ – know the basic structural features of alkanes and cycloalkanes – know how to name alkanes, alkyl groups and cycloalkanes according to the IUPAC rules and know how to draw structural formulas for alkanes and cycloalkanes – know the basic physical properties of alkanes and understand the influence of intermolecular forces on the physical properties of alkanes.
