Description
At the end of this activity, students should be able to: – classify organic compounds as aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic – define a homologous series of compounds – explain the general approach to naming organic compounds recommended by the IUPAC – identify and name parent hydrocarbons for organic molecules – build a name for an organic compound using the names of the parent hydrocarbon, alkyl groups and functional groups – apply the IUPAC rules in naming organic compounds – draw the structure of a molecule using its IUPAC name.
