Description
At the end of this activity, students should be able to: – give the criteria for the classification of the elements in the periodic table – state the group in which a given element occurs on the basis of the number of its valence electrons, and vice versa – state the period in which a given element occurs on the basis of the number of electron shells, and vice versa – determine whether a given element is a metal, a metalloid or a non-metal from its position in the periodic table – give examples of similarities in the properties of elements within a given main group – give examples of periodic changes in the properties of elements that occur in the same period.
